If you are the caretaker of a cat, you’ll know how fussy they can be about litter boxes, and again, I can only speak from personal experience.
I used a regular clay brand in my cattery (not a house brand, because that was even worse when I once had to use it in an emergency), and used 45 to 50 10kg bags per month.
It does not absorb wetness, nor does it absorb the smell. My litter box life changed when I was introduced to Cats Best.
It absorbs smells wonderfully (it won’t ever absorb the smell 100%), and because it is a clumping litter, you just scoop out the clumps every day and top it up with a bit of fresh litter 2 or 3 times a week.
You hardly throw away any unused litter, and for this reason, a 17.2kg bag can last 5 to 7 months for a single-cat household. I promise you won’t ever consider using clay or silicone. Not EVER again.
It can also be used for rabbits, guinea pigs and other pets.
